Usability and user experience UX are not the same thing: the usability of a product is a crucial part that shapes its UX, and hence falls under the umbrella of UX. Usability is hence more than just about whether users can perform tasks easily ease-of-use. It also deals with user satisfaction—for a website to be usable, it has to be engaging and aesthetically pleasing, too. Usability matters because if users cannot achieve their goals efficiently, effectively and in a satisfactory manner, they are likely to seek an alternative solution to reach their goals.
And for websites and apps, alternative solutions are abundant. Quite simply: if your product is not usable, its UX will be bad, and users will leave you for your competitors.
Usability Heuristic 7: Flexibility and Efficiency of Use
Given that, designers looking to develop products with longevity need to ensure that those products are usable or risk losing users to their competitors. This goes to show the potential harm bad usability can bring to your website. Usability is the outcome of a user-centered design process. That is a process which examines how and why a user will adopt a product and seeks to evaluate that use. That process is an iterative one and seeks to continuously improve following each evaluation cycle.
Effectiveness is about whether users can complete their goals with a high degree of accuracy. Much of the effectiveness of a product comes from the support provided to users when they work with the product; for example, fixing a credit card field so that it only accepts a valid credit card number entry can reduce data entry errors and help users perform their tasks correctly.
There are many different ways to provide support—the key is to be as informative as possible in a meaningful way to the user. In the IDF payment form, we restrict the number of digits you can enter into the credit card number field to reduce data entry errors. You might also want to examine the language used in your product—the clearer and simpler that language is ideally 6 th -grade levelthe more likely that your information will have the right impact on the user. Using the right level of technicality—for example, reducing the number of technical coding terms for a design-focused website—also helps make your messages clearer and meaningful to users.
Redundancy in navigation can sometimes be beneficial; if users have multiple paths to their objective, they are more likely to get there. This may reduce the overall efficiency of the process, however, so a balance has to be struck.
Effectiveness and efficiency have come to be blurred in the mind. They are, however, quite different from a usability perspective. Efficiency is all about speed. How fast can the user get the job done? This will help develop efficient processes. So as to maximize efficiency, you need to examine how your users prefer to work—are they interacting via a smartphone or a desktop computer with a large keyboard and mouse?
The two require very different approaches to navigation. Engagement refers to the level of engagement a system offers. Proper layouts, readable typography and ease of navigation all come together to deliver the right interaction for the user and make it engaging. The value it offers to people worldwide is so immense that aesthetics are a secondary concern.
The focus here is on the ability to find information and the structure of the presentation of the information to facilitate reading. Thus, curious readers can discover facts and access related pages quickly or efficiently! However, the next best thing is to minimize errors from occurring and to ensure that a user can easily recover from an error and get back to what he or she was doing.
This is error tolerance. If you want a product to be used regularly, then you want the users to be able to learn the product easily so that when they use it again, it comes as second nature. You also need to accommodate ease of learning when releasing new functionality and features; otherwise, a familiar and happy user may quickly become frustrated with your latest release.Technically it relates to energy expenditure; the less energy expended during execution of a sport skill, the more efficient is the movement.
However, in order to get movement that uses a minimum amount of energy, the execution must be very effective. This is related to technique. In other words, the technique of execution must be such that it produces the best possible sports results and at the same time uses the minimum amount of energy. To do this however is not very easy.
Even world-class athletes spend much time on improving their technique as they develop their physical qualities and execute their sports skills. Understand that as you develop greater strength and or other physical abilities your technique changes. As a result it must be constantly adjusted. One of the biggest problems facing coaches is to learn what effective technique is and to learn how to enable the athlete to maintain effective and efficient technique during execution of his skills.
This is where we run into major conflicting opinions. For example, in recent article the author brought out that mobility and stability are most important in efficiency of movement. His definition of mobility could be summed up in one word, flexibility. Flexibility is a combination of muscle elasticity and range of motion ROM which is really freedom of movement. It is determined by the strength of the muscles to move the limb through the ROM needed. This is the key factor especially when the athlete begins to fatigue when executing a skill over a long period of time.
It is at this time that we see efficiency deteriorating mainly because the muscles are not capable of maintaining the same ROM while holding the body stable. Stability is related to posture but when performing a sports skill we must think of dynamic stability, not simply maintaining posture. In essence, it means keeping every body part that is not involved in the movement stationary to allow for the movement to take place.
It is sometimes used synonymously with balance as for example, keeping the body balanced as you execute the skill. To test for mobility and stability the author used a stationary exercise.
Efficiency in Movement
But, what you do when in a stationary position does not equate to what occurs in a dynamic situation. The forces encountered in a dynamic action sometimes allow for a greater range of motion than can be achieved passively.
You can then take measurements to see the same ROM is displayed and if the body parts not involved in skill execution remain in a stable position. Most have specific times of the day when they are more or less productive as a result of energy levels and demands of the day. They are also a great way to avoid spending all day thinking about everything you have to do. Just take your tasks one day at a time. Although working long hours or skipping breaks can sometimes improve productivity in the short-term, your exhaustion later will ensure that your overall productivity actually drops.
Except for rare emergencies, it is important to resist the temptation to over-work. Include necessary breaks, and a sensible quitting time, in your schedule. Knowing and enforcing an optimum workload for yourself ensures consistency in your performance and avoids burnout.
Employers want to be able to count on you for the long-term. Knowing what and when to delegate is an important skill. Some people resist delegating, either because they want to maintain control or because they want to save money by not hiring assistants. Both approaches ultimately hurt productivity and raise costs. These good and bad examples will demonstrate the qualities you need for an effective research question. A simple question gets a simple answer. And a simple answer will not be enough information for a thesis.
How you ask the question is important. Avoid questions that can be answered with "yes" or "no" or a single word or phrase. With this "bad" question, the answer is a simple "yes" or "no. This type of answer allows you create a thesis statement. A good research question should be focused on a single topic or on several closely related ideas. If it isn't, you won't end up with a good thesis. If a question is too general or doesn't stay on one topic, you can fix it by deciding which part of the topic you want to research.
And do kids need more exercise? Instead of covering both ADHD medication and exercise as topics, the good question focuses on medication only. It's also more specific about the age of the students. The answer to this question will provide a good thesis. It's possible to ask a really interesting question and not be able to find the answer.
Don't forget that your reason for asking this question is to come up with a really great answer - one on which you'll be able to build a paper or project.
If you can't answer it, you can't write a paper or do the project. You can keep the same topic but change the question to be something you have the ability to answer within the time period and using the resources available to you. As you write your question, think about the answer you want to receive. An opinion or value judgement isn't a good start for a strong research paper or project. Instead, you want to create a thesis based on data and objective evidence.
Asking which national park is the best does not provide a thesis that can serve as the basis for a project or essay. It only asks for an opinion. However, you can use visitor data and lists of park features to answer the better version of this question. As you write your question, make it as specific as possible.
This will give you a more detailed answer - one that is strong enough to be the topic of your project or paper. Good : How does aspartame affect post-menopausal women who suffer from migraines? By specifying which artificial sweetener and which people, the question is easier to answer with facts. These facts help form a strong, focused thesis and they also lend support to your work. If you ask a question that's already been answered a thousand times before, you're only doing research that someone else has already done.
